Connecting parents with safe, local older people for childcare.
The global childcare market is expected to grow at 11.3% CAGR to nearly $520.4 billion this year. Many people around the world are spending more on their childcare than on their mortgage right now but finding someone reliable and willing to do part-time hours is increasingly difficult as a result of Covid and Brexit. At the same time, unemployment amongst the over 50s has doubled in the UK during Covid.
GrandNanny is a the UK’s first intergenerational childcare service. We help working parents hire childcarers with a lifetime of experience.
The global childcare market is estimated to have been worth $339.1 billion in 2018, having grown at a CAGR of 8.3% since 2014 (Business Research Company). It is expected to grow at a CAGR of 11.3% to nearly $520.4 billion by 2022. The UK childcare industry is worth an estimated £11B, driven by the female employment rate reaching a record high and a YoY increase in the number of primary school age children (ONS, DOE) but the market is constricted by a lack of skilled childcarers. In inner London it costs £4,420 per child per year for term-time after school pick ups by a Childminder. This could reach £5,700/year including holiday cover (CC&T). There are 1.2m families in London with dependent children and this has increased 9.5% over the 5 years to 2019 (DOE, 2019).
